Please be very careful with gfig, It goes back to Gimp 1.x and really is well past its sell-buy date. There plenty posts over the years where users have lost their work while using gfig.
If you wait for the next update, Gimp 3.0.6 which should be soon, it should have the Vector Layer function that Rod mentioned in another post. You can draw your own paths or even start a collection from pre-made svg shapes.
This a quick, not very good animation, showing a vector layer. You can edit the path, add NDE filters (example is drop shadow and waves) change those and the result shows on the canvas.
