Sorry folks it wasn't done in Gimp, i created it with 3-D Text Commander. I suppose it could be done in Gimp though.
I just bought the Pro version and wanted to play with it.I liked the results of the rendering so i used it as a sig here.
Mama bear has been letting me go crazy for my B-Day (which isn't until the 17th) :)
So far i have gotten -
45 gallon fish tank for my Piranha
Rollins amp for my Ibanez guitar
About $200.00 in assorted software i have been wanting to buy.
Going for more RAM next. heheh

Still looks cool, I'm gonna give it a try in Gimp when I have time.

Actually, 3D Commander does a great job, I just wanted to see how close I could get using GIMP quickly. I'd rather use Inkscape and the motion extension, which is very detailed.

Here is one i did in GIMP you would just have to add path lines for better definition of the text and set the opacity accordingly.

What i did was create a GIMP CHAT brush, and just stacked the letters. Then on the last (Top) layer i added a stroke and set the opacity real low.You could probably make the top layer of text a bit darker instead or the bottom layer, whichever. It didn't turn out too bad though.

Kudos to the text brush idea. :)
