After having a play in gimp and with G'MIC afterwards i came up with this

It is originally 3000+ x 3000+ Can be seen here

Thanks for this. I'm new to GIMP and I'm still in the hunter-gatherer phase of newbing, so I do appreciate your post. Trying to no be too greedy, but more than once in the past few weeks I've wanted to appropriate your location status as well.

It reminds me of a river bottom.

Thank you guys. Kimba I never thought of that.. but I guess the smaller roundish bits could be 'pebbles'

I think it would look cooler as a flat design as you can see all the details.
