Trying to turn map into globe

I am very new to gimp. I am trying to turn a flat map into a cutout for a globe. I have split the whole image into 12 images each 8.33% of the original. I split the image using guides. Where I am stuck is trying to transform the slices into Cartesian Transformations. I believe that the equation I want to use is x = w/2+(x-w/2)/(sin(y*pi/h)) ; y = y. where X and Y are the axes and h and w are height and width. The height and with of full image is w1920 h878, and the slices are w160 h878 if it matters. I can not find anywhere in the filters a place to input equations.

I created this using GIMP 2.8.18 and the spinning golpe script.

Look up about making a "gore" There is/was an online site onetime, can't find it at the moment.

However using Gimp, try the gmic_gimp_qt plugin http://www.gmic.eu The Map Projection section.

I have made Christmas tree "baubles" this way in the past - not easy
