I am unable to get a couple of the styles to work - doesn't seem to be the alpha channel either, as the others work with or without.

These filters look something to get a quick result. Would be great to have Eastman color and other 60's/70's film presets.
But reel film is apparently very hard to simulate correctly, there are many factors to consider, lenses etc. so it's not going to be spot on with only color grading and effects. The night mode seems most useful, night shoots were often done daytime and post processed with blue tint and high contrast because if you shot at night on film, the footage was usually very grainy.

True Nidhogg, a lot of the filters in GMIC give a quick result but you still have to play with the settings to get different results

Are their any in the simulate film presets under colour? I didn't see Eastman but other 60's/70's?
You can do a montage of a picture of the different prests but they are mostly Fuji
