Diego, the problem is, I don't see the possibility to add a mask in your filter.
Or is it the intention I add the layer mask myself in the layers dialogue ?

Ella,
you have to do the following steps, before running the filter:

1-add a mask (white) to your source layer.
To add the mask:
Gimp menu: Layer
-Layer menu: Mask
--Mask menu: Add layer mask
---Add Layer Mask menu: choose White

2-click on the mask (this will set it the active drawable)
3-"paint" with dark gray over the areas you like to preserve, for instance the eyes
4-click on the layer back to set it to active drawable

Then run the filter.

It seems complicated, but it isn't.

A little advice.
Do not paint the layermask before you run Diego D filter.
Just insert the layermask (white) as Diego tell you and run the filter.
When the filter are finished you can paint white in the now black filter and you can see in real time how much you shall paint. Much easier

Une, that's exactly what my experiments had taught me.
I had applied the mask first but was not satisfied with the result.
After that I tried it my own way... and came to the same conclusion as you :)

Thanks to both of you.
My post #98 was probably unclear?

No Diego, your post#98 wasn't unclear. Thank you for that and the attachement.
It's just that when you first edit the original photo with the mask and then run the filter,
the difference between the edited part and the drawing becomes too big.
For example, the eyes don't really seem to be drawn anymore.
When you first run the filter and then edit the mask with a soft brush and low opacity,
you have more control over the credibility of the drawing.
That's only my personal opinion by experimenting with your filter.

Ella and Issabella are like professional masters with your filters, Dinasset. I am totally amazed at how effortless their examples are and how well they are used.
