david-c: so good to see this project finished, i was looking forward to that. i really like your take on mona lisa, especially the face and the background are so beautifully made. to be critical, i could say i'd like her hair better if those strands on her right side were softened a bit - they give her the impression of being pasted onto the background.
very well done, overall, and a great round of applause from göteborg! :jumpclap

Thanks, it's still open to some finishing touches and fixes, courtesy of the feedback. I agree with the hair. I worked mostly on one layer - I usually work with at least 3, but somehow feel more comfortable with less for portraits. I probably used too much of a hard of a brush for some parts of the hair. The focal point was the face, which as you can tell went through a lot of remodelling, and thus my main area of work. I actually need to cringe at the first attempts now, looking back on them. I may refine the other areas as well, I didn't spend a lot of time on the background, that was more of a speedpaint job. I think the eye lids are still a bit off.

Another thing bothering me is the lack of detail in the dress area, but that was as according to the reference. I may have to brighten the reference up a bit.

Thanks for the feedback, all.

Made some more fixes to the eyes, as well as refining other parts. Finalized it with changing the colour scheme slightly with the beautify plugin:

A preview Star Wars sketch I've been working on for the last few weeks. Still needs refining and more detail, but that's about the gist of it:

Will be painted with Gimp Painter 2.8.

david-c: mona lisa looks very well finished off. now leave her, no matter what feedback you get, or you'll never be finished :)! i like the composition of the star wars sketch, but i'm very curious about whose suit he is wearing and whose head he's cut off!

A WIP of my latest Star Wars art. Around halfway complete. Still a lot to get done and change. The sketch layer is disabled here. This is much smaller to the size I usually upload, due to it only being a preview.

Using Gimp Painter 2.8.

Nice WIP David-C. You already have some nice texturing in the sand and his cloak is looking good as well - looking forward to more.

A very early WIP of SW Episode 7's Captain Phasma. The sketch itself is still incomplete. I've only experimented with a mixbrush preset here - once the sketch is finished I will start the painting all over.

STAR WARS ART... YES!!! I AM HAPPY NOW!!! lol

I get the Darth Vader one, clever.
Well done with the "uniform". I think though the skulls are a but too cartoony contrasted with the ole Darthy. :lol Nice though, very nice, I'm too scared to attempt anything starwars related. I'll probably botch it up.

Now I've only seen promo art for this next character (Haven't seen the new one yet), but based on the stuff I do know of the character it's a very good job so far! Keep it up!

Well done on the Mona too!

Thanks for the feedback. I was aiming for a comic book style (which I have zero experience with) which unfortunately ended up a bit too cartoony in the end. I think I phoned it in when I got to the skulls. I also have little experience with inking, but it was a good learning process. I'll need to study a lot more comics to improve on the realism, without directly copying others style.

I haven't seen SW: Episode 7 either, but I like the look of the Captain Phasma character. I'll be doing a recording of the painting process, so that video will be linked here as well.
