Here are a couple of path based mandalas heavily featuring good old Gnu Tux's Bevel Reflect Logo (BRL) filter. For me Gimp is not Gimp without BRL.

It's a beautifully glowing flower (feels like a sunflower but not). Nice one!
I like it lots so I used it (hope you don't mind) to make a plaid pattern to add to the collection http://plaid.great-site.net/
Under the same name "Copper Flower Mandala D8" D8 is the diagonal width of that plaid pattern.
Linking back to your post as well (I like that link ability feature too to credit where the colors came from).
