David Revoy, art director and concept artist of the Blender project Durian, Sintel put on DVD a very good Digital painting course using free/open source software.(a meddle of gimp, gimpainter & gimp paint studio,plus MyPaint,Alchemy,Blender)

And the DVD in the software section include the best gimp hack i saw (best because easy to install and because it include a configuration for windows and dialog that i found ideal and may be applied also to last stable gimp)

But in case you can't you can find the DVD for free as torrent

Again if you buy you will also support blender, but anyway the content is Creative Commune so the torrent is licit

Neverthless in case i prefer let you search the torrent link ...but i will give 2 pointers:
i found on a site called something as "licit torrent" or "Legit torrents"
and a google search for :-"chaos and evolution" torrent -will give immediate result

I would love to download it. I'm currently back to saving money from my $20 allowance each week, for another new PC since I can't get the one I bought at BB fixed and it's only a few months old. If anyone knows where to download it without torrent software, I would appreciate the info.

The file is far too big (about 8GB) for a normal download

torrent software are not dangerous (what may be dangerous are cracked programs, and from a legal point all violation of copyright) many linux distro suggest to use if possible torrent to download the kernel...less problem for the server and for the users (torrent sw make a much better check for integrity of the file, download is usually quicker and support stop and go)

PS Bad news... i just checked the side http://www.legittorrents.info/index.php ... 4&active=1 the file is still there close to the bottom but apparently now has only 1 seed...that means that the torrent may be dead

OK i 7zipped the software , brushes, and so on
i let out Alchemy (but i included the custom Alkemy "shapes" )and MayPaint because may be more recent version online.
and i added in a separate folder last version of the GPS brush and preset pack from Ramon Miranda, its manual, and a file with all the links

only problem the file is about 110MB...too much for my box on box.net, where i may upload?
Again i used 7zip not norm,al .zip because the file size (170MB if zipped 110 with 7zip)

About gimpainter you will find the win, the mac version and the source code

At the time of this post, there are three of us torrenting the file. Hopefully, things will pick up as I am only at about 25Kbs download rate. I am throttling my upload at 100Kbs so as not bog down my connection too much; I will increase this once I'm off the 'puter.

okay i start seeding now and i may continue for a few days
but i fear it will not help much my upload speed is quite low (Alas my provider do traffic shaping )

i see only 2 peers...

anyway a suggestion, as for any torrent you may chose to don't download some files, in this case i can't see reason to download , in the Software folder, Alkemy Blender and MyPaint because may be newer versions, and anyway you may dl directly them from the the project sides

For the other sw i doubt you will need all the binaries for Win, Ubuntu, and Mac + the source code, that for your OS is sufficent

torrent sw may differ but usually you may just right click on the item you are downloading (in this case "chaos and evolution"
at soon you do should pop out a dropdown menu
chose "more details" and there "files", that will show you all the files contained in "chaos and evolution"
select what you don't need, right click again and chose "set priority" and after "don't download"

And if you want see something (i.e a video) while the rest is downloading do the same but instead then "don't download" chose "high priority"...then at soon that single file is at 100% (again you will see from "more details/ file" ) you may "open in explorer"(or whatever file browser you got) click and see it, even if all the rest is still incomplete

well still seeding but my upload speed is really low ( ADSL traffic shaping , also i still have to do the port forwading and other optimizations...i set upload speed to unlimited but that seems have no much effect...
