Here are the patterns of OOo. It's 7zip because I had trouble with regular zip files.

I went to open it, and it defaults to WinRar, and I have 7zip installed too...
:gaah

Right click -> 7zip and then something like extract. I downloaded them and extracted them to see if it worked and it was fine? :?:

If we're looking for new image file formats to support then how about Google's WebP - a replacement for JPEG:

I heard of that before also the webP extension.Sounds like it might just replace JPEG if it catches on.

good tip payneckj...a pity that for the gimp a webP plugin doesn't exist yet

Old ImageMagick was much quicker already support it !
http://www.imagemagick.org/script/formats.php

the WebP Win codec works on the fly, just installed and a minute later i can see the images here http://code.google.com/speed/webp/gallery.html#contents in the image viewer...but that doesn't help for gimp

just curious to see if xnview already support the format

EDIT yes xnview open and save webP ,but with the new beta (http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=76&t=22629 ) ...or from next stable
And i saw a FF extension (as now linux only, no idea why )

It worked Fine for me guys, Just a 7z file defaults to open in WinRar? Lol
Just seems weird that 7zip didn't open its own file type automaticly

PhotoComix · **Joined:** Apr 12, 2010 **Posts:** 5870

sure that could do , it has a explorer integration only problem that some other program may screw up
things, then 7zip disappear from the explorer menu

PhotoComix · **Joined:** Apr 12, 2010 **Posts:** 5870

Sorry Willy my reply was no much useful without screenshot

Open 7zip go in Tool menu/preferences here you may select the format to be associated(=to open automatically)

Here what you may integrate in explorer RIGHT click menu

Thanks,
I still find it stupid that it doesn't open its own file type

Rod · **Joined:** May 16, 2010 **Posts:** 16197

It wont if something else you install takes over that file extension.

As it pertains to this topic, I would mention that Alexandre Proukadine has written a very nice conspectus on the various resources which can enhance GIMP.

You are right it is really very nice and well written

Rod · **Joined:** May 16, 2010 **Posts:** 16197

If this lives up to the promise, it will be give jpeg2000 a run for it's money? Anyway,
https://launchpad.net/gimp-webp
has a Gimp plugin which I will make available for the next build I do. I am currently testing the plugin on my 64-bit Gimp build to see if there is anything that I need to know before releasing it.

If anyone else wants to test it, please let me know.

PhotoComix · **Joined:** Apr 12, 2010 **Posts:** 5870

sure...ready for testing
and btw there IS a webP plugin for gimp

Why you just don't include the Ghostscript exe (now i should find the exact name, but i am sure you got it ) in the bin folder so the PDF (and eps) plugin will work on the fly?
it's is a dependence ,it is open source , plugins can't find it let help the poor plugin (and users ...)
