well i do at binary level:
1 install ghostscript
2 extract gswin64.exe (gimpwin32.exe for 32 bit) and move on the gimp bin folder

now i am not sure if there is a zipped version of ghostscript ,in that case you do not even need to install
BTW 7zip may open some Installers (not all) as were zip, i didn't try with GS but may work, in case they don't have a portable or zipped version
(btw i just delete ghostscript after i do not need another program to open pdf)
