It's not in the Gimp Chat site rules but I think it's a good one to follow.

When you use Quote in your comment, please, do not include images posted by people you are commenting on unless it's absolutely necessary.
Some images are immensely big and it takes forever for the page to load.
Beside the fact that it floods this site, follow this rule for your own sake. Displayed images are being stored in your browser's
cache memory which slows down your browser and also brings unnecessary overload to your computer's CPU and RAM.

I agree kite. I dump graphics if I'm quoting someone as it seems superflous to repeat them. I think it's a really good idea but to make it a rule, may be difficult to enforce it. Staff could delete them as they see them and send a pm to the person who is doing it, asking them to delete images from quotes.

Would it be easier to just update the board code to not parse [img] tags inside quotes? It could replace the image with a link "click here to view", just in case the someone still wants to view the image from the quote.

That's a good suggestion merrak. Hopefully GnuTux will be in here and able to do that or something similar.

Good suggestion. Now let's see if it works with a pic of my cat (rest her soul).

It doesn't work with old posts but should work going forward. Older posts would have to be reparsed.

There is a utility for a complete reparsing of a phpBB3 board but there are some known problems with doing that. I'm not really prepared to test it, at least not at this point in time. :)

Well if any of the staff run across them, we can delete them. Maybe members can alert a staff member if they find one.

Actually, the staff doesn't need to delete the old quoted images. Just edit the post, resubmit and it will be reparsed. :bigthup

That's basically what the reparse utility is supposed to do (reparse all the posts) but I'm not sure if I trust it. I'd definitely have to do a full backup, take the board offline, then run the utility. It would surely take some time to reparse all 85,000+ posts. :hehe

I think K1TesseraEna's idea works excellently and really helps to improve the board, also good to have you back around GnuTux

I tried just clicking the edit button on two others I found and re-submitting and it didn't work. I had to manually remove the images. Maybe I didn't hold my mouth right.

You're correct O. You have to edit, preview, then submit. That will work.

Aha! Doing a preview first makes it work. Thanks GnuTux. :geek
