Twiddling thumbs and trying to be patient. Interesting comments by others. The worst aspect is all the uncertainty this generates within the forum. It would be a huge loss to lose all the knowledge contained within these collective pages if GimpChat really does go pear-shaped.

Let's hope that the surge of uploads, when (surely not if) normal service is resumed, does not blow another gasket in the workings of the GC server.

I understand your concern and I agree.

It's in Omega's hands.
There's nothing more that I can do.

As of 4/13/2017 11:54am USA AZ time.
Still unable to use the Gimp Chat upload button to add images.

I apologies for the inconvenience this is causing,
hopefully this will soon be resolved.

It's the Internet Archive. GimpChat is regularly snapshotted (as was GimpForums). You can retrieve the "important"posts from there. What is lost is the Google links on them.

Also, take this thread and replace GimpTalk by GimpChat :)

1) All of GimpChat is on the InternetArchive so the information is not lost in GC goes belly up. What is lost however is what Google knows about it (although for a while, Google links will be translatable to workable IA links)

2) In that thread, people are saying about GimpTalk more or less what we are saying about GC now. And see where GT is today.

So, if a GC member were to have spare 4-5 TB hdd space (possibly 2 would be more then enough for entire GC forum) would there be a direct way to backup from IA? just curious.

I'd be heartbroken if GC closed down!! I'm sticking here because I love this place!

Hopefully all will be fixed. I'm assuming that Omega runs quite a few websites, and since he isn't active here it probably takes him longer to get things taken care of. It might help if the mods had more admin. permissions, they might be able to help keep more problems taken care of.

More like a handful of Gigabytes. There are 200K posts, if each post came with a 100KB attachment you would be at 20GB (on Gimp-Forum.net (80MB of attachments for 1800 posts), the average attachment/post is 45K). Text of posts is insignificant (the backup of the database that contains the G-F.N posts is 700K).

I forgot the max. upload size, thought 5 GB. To me, in this day and age, 20GB is very small.
I suppose no one has admin rights to backup directly other than the owner.
At least there would be peace of mind in case something permanent happened.

Well the main thing is Jacob has confirmed that he knows there is a problem.
Thank you for letting us know Wallace.

I believe it's now working.

If anyone else would like to give it a test,
be my guest.
