I've added Google's custom search tool to the search page. Unfortunately, Google wants me to pay them $100 per year to add this search feature without ads. I'm certainly not going to pay them for not running ads.

I'll have to admit that it's an impressive tool for searching this site, complete with thumbnails and post excerpts. It also searches gimpscripts.com at the same time.

The reason I added the Google search is that GC's (phpBB3) built-in search options are buggy and not very good. It's actually pretty much broken at the moment and I can't even rebuild the search index without the rebuild utility crashing every time it hits a "special" character. When the rebuild utility crashes, I have to start the rebuild process over from scratch. My last attempt to rebuild the search indexes took numerous restarts, over several days, until I finally got tired of searching down and deleting the offending characters and just gave up.

I'll check with the phpBB3 group to see if they have any updates or recommendations on how to proceed but for now, the custom Google search is another option.

Yes, it appears on the search page at the top, unless you are blocking it.

The problem with the built-in search is that it doesn't return all the matches it should, due to the indexing problems I mentioned (and limitations in the search functions themselves). There are posts here that I know contain specific keywords that don't get returned with the built-in search. Yet, they are properly indexed and returned by the Google search.

One good thing you can say about Google is they do have the best search engine technology.

Found it. Don't need it today but at least I know where to find it when I do.
In my view it runs across most of the page in a horizontal, a few lines down from the normal search.

my google search is free. As I have worked
with adsense quite a bit and if you want to make an adsense account you can create a special search engine that google
dose not have. Google will create the code and create a index html page just for that search engine and add it to their repertoire
of search engines and GC can link back to that page and actually get paid for any searches from that page.
Just need a special type search that google dosen't have already. Created a Gold-au search page, fishinglimit search page.
Need a art photo search special enough that google dose not already have. GC dose not have to add any google advertisements to do this.
