Server Outages - More Downtime Possible

I have an update from the webhost..

I consider the fact that they've isolated the problem to be good news. The obvious question now is how long before the drives are replaced and raid is rebuilt?

I'll let y'all know when I find out. Looks like we will be limping along until then. It can take many hours to rebuild a large redundant array of drives so when that happens, I suspect we will be offline for 10-12hrs, at least.

GC went down again overnight. Just got word from the host that one of the bad drives was swapped out and they are rebuilding the RAID now, which might slow down the site. I guess hot swapping out one drive at a time, and rebuilding on the fly, is better than taking the site offline. :hehe

I did a full backup of GIMP Chat & the SQL DBs so if disaster strikes, we're covered. There was over 10G of data, comprising over 26,000 files. :smiley2

Yes, well. It better get back to normal soon or I'm gonna be moving to a new host. Being down 4 times in 4 days is totally unacceptable.

Try living in aus it goes down every day (but I've geen catching up with some of bollywood films I'd not seen yet) :tyspin

Compared to the rest of the internet, this forum is remarkably clean and organized. I'm not sure how you all pull it off but I like that you do. Don't beat yourself up over a little down time when the server exploded, it's gonna work out, I'm sure. Of course your host not responding to tickets in a timely manner is probably very frustrating. Hang in there, you're doing a great job.

Well, when I first got off work, I could not get connected to GIMPChat; woke up an hour later and voila. Not sure how long GIMPChat was down, but, the last post was before 5am. Hopefully they finally added the RAID drive and all's well.

I've been on service calls all day, fixing Windows' PCs with trojans, adware, browser hijacks and general corruption issues, just to name a few of the problems.
By the end of the day, I felt like :gaah

I was leaving one location, walked outside and the customer's neighbor had 3 PCs that needed attention. Fixed two of them and brought the other home to go on the bench. It's a brand new laptop with Windows 8 on it. Turns out they hate Win. 8 and want to downgrade to Win. 7. Whatever the customer wants, I always say. Without Windows problems to fix, I'd go broke. :mrgreen:

So, the site has been up all day? Dang, maybe the webhost actually fixed it. :jumpclap

Now I've jinxed it, for sure. :hehe
