Okay Mackenzie,
sounds like a plan.

Glad to see that you are back, Mackenzieh. Hope you get your new laptop loaded up with GIMP and look forward to seeing your play soon too. :)

Think that's enough RAM to run Gimp and do a little video editing?

Yeah it's enough for a lot of things. I run into memory error when I try to run neural networks when i try to go crazy and define a really large network. it runs smaller networks fine.

I'm now beginning to have problems with my laptop and it's not even a year old. The mute volume light fails to light up... it's done that twice. It works now but who knows how long that will last. According to HP support, it's an intermittent keyboard problem. Since it failed the keyboard test, HP wants me to send it in. This is my second HP and it already has problems. The first HP I had was a G7 and it experienced the same problems. First it was the mute button on the laptop and then it was the number 1 key on the full keyboard layout, then letters stopped working. I really don't like HP but I'm stuck with this laptop because it was a gift from my Dad. It's still under warranty, but I still don't like the HP brand. I wanted the Acer Aspire R 15, but I didn't get it and it's unavailable on coscto.com.

My laptop is still causing me problems even after I sent it in for repair on June 21, 2018. I sent it in because of keyboard issues, the mute button wasn't illuminating. That issue has since been fixed and I received the laptop back July 2, 2018. This time around the problem is my laptop keeps freezing when whenever I'm online which makes me have to shut it down and turn it back on. The problems started a few days after I received the laptop back from repair. I don't even do anything except twitter, youtube and play games on facebook. I can't stand HP.

This sound like it could be a malware issue,
or something similar.
Have you attempted to do a scan,
with whatever security software you have?

Another thing you could try.
Is to boot into safe mode with networking.
To see if the computer behaves the same.

Also,
sorry to say this,
but at this point.
I would be looking to get my money back,
(if possible).
From wherever the machine was purchased.
Then see about getting that Acer you mentioned previously.

I scan my laptop with Malawarebytes and McAfee Live Safe every time before shutting my laptop down. I even check for updates on the HPSA and in Windows Update all the time and nothing. I'm going to call my Dad and tell him the situation since he paid for it from Costco's online site and I received it in the mail. If he tells me to get a replacement, then I will. I just think HP sucks as a brand. I mean I know no laptop brand isn't perfect and I know that Acer, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, and Asus require parts to be made in foreign countries, but HP laptops and their products in general shouldn't be having issues within months of using them. My laptop shouldn't be freezing up when coming out of sleep mode no matter what I'm doing or how many windows I have open in Edge.

I agree,
hopefully you'll be able to perhaps get it replaced.

HP isn't very good and Acer is only slightly better.
However,
Dell and Asus are better then both of them,
most Dell's seem to last a long time.
Lenovo is expensive and not much better then Acer.
I know nothing about Toshiba laptops.

I still have my old Dell desktop Mini Tower,
that's about 12 years old,
with Windows 10 on it.
I don't use it any longer,
but it's still running,
so I keep it around as a backup system.

Just curious.
Are you running 2 security application at the same time?
If you are,
this could be causing conflicts within your system.

No, I don't run them at the same time. The one I mainly use is Malawarebytes. I only use LiveSafe if I have to. My mom has a Dell which my brother got for her. I hope to get my laptop replaced. I wanted a 2-in-1 Acer, Asus, or Dell but since it was a gift from my Dad, I had to take the HP.

I gave my dad a call and explained everything to him in regards to my laptop. He asked me what I thought he could do to help me. I told him that I had lost the receipt and that if he had it, it would help. He said he would find the receipt and e-mail it to me since I lost it. He even asked if my brother knew about it and I said no. I guess he thought that my brother could help. I don't see how since brother doesn't work with computers. My dad also says that it could be slow and freeze on start up due to what I have downloaded on my laptop. What I have downloaded on my laptop shouldn't freeze my laptop when it's coming out of sleep mode but it could be possible. These are the programs I have downloaded on my laptop: Gimp, Paint.net, Krita, DVD Soft Free Image Converter, Malawarebytez, Apophysis, & SMPlayer. All programs, were scanned with Malawarebytez and LiveSafe and they came back clean with no viruses. What do you think?

I highly doubt,
that this issue has anything to do,
with the things you say you've already downloaded.

Being that I don't have the machine in front of me.
Based on what I know and what you say your computer is doing.
It's displaying symptoms,
of what could and has been described as typical Malware/Viral infection.
Your security software has given you the "all clear".
This tells me that there is something else going on.

My earlier suggestion,
to boot into Safe Mode With Networking.
To see if the computer still behaves the same way.
Remains to be something,
which could help to add more information about what the laptop is or isn't doing.
If it does preform the same in Safe Mode With Networking,
this could indicate some type of service issue,
or perhaps a settings issue and or corrupt system files.

Corrupt System files,
can sometimes be repaired.
By running the command: sfc /scannow
Using Command Prompt Run As Administrator.

If the laptop is running Windows 10.
You could, (as a last resort).
Preform what's known as an "In Place Repair".

Windows 10: Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade

If after running the command sfc /scannow and it did find,
but could not repair the system files.

You would then need to run the DISM,
or Deployment Imaging and Servicing Management command.
to fix Windows component corruption when a sfc /scannow command is unable to repair it.

The DISM command is as follows: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth
Which should be done in Command Prompt Run as Administrator.
The DISM command given above,
is just a quick way to see if corruption currently exists.

There is a better description of the DISM command using the link below:

Windows 10: Use DISM to Repair Windows 10 Image

My laptop froze up while I was away from my laptop. I was away for an hour and it froze with only 4 windows open. Having said that, all of what you said Wallace, sounds complicated and I am not that tech savvy, so I will just deal with this the best I can. I will end up calling my case manager tomorrow.

The things or tasks I've mentioned,
are more specific then they are complicated.
Which doesn't really help all that much,
if you're having difficulty understanding what it is you're (specifically) suppose to do.

The links I provided,
do give detailed instructions on how to perform these operations.
However,
this isn't always clear to those without working knowledge of intermediate/advanced Windows computer usage.

Would you happen to know anyone personally,
who might be able to follow/perform the aforementioned tasks,
which I've outlined?

If not.
There is a chance,
that I could help out remotely.
This would entail the use of a third-party Remote Connection Application,
such as the free program Teamviewer.
Which would be the program I would use and also recommend.

If this is something you'ed be willing to give a try.
Send me a PM and we'll discuss it in more detail.

Personally, I don't know anyone who would be able to perform the tasks you mentioned. I did however, get another cumulative update and I did that. I will wait and see what my case manager says. Perhaps she can help me tomorrow when I call. I will have this post open when I make the call.
