Thank you Molly, can't see it yet so I will continue to look. :)
Apparently it has successfully downloaded. I just got to find where ;)

Will see if it changes by tomorrow. My computer has restarted twice since my last download and it still says Windows 7.
if it doesn't I won't worry any further about it.

That is what we are feeling too... Is it worth the frustrations?

No I posted the error message I got about 15 min into the install. Tried it twice and it shut down twice. I left it down all night and in the morning it aborted and left that message.

Ouch; oh well. Not sure if you can do a clean install of Win10 if it is even worth doing Molly. Might be a driver or a program that's preventing you from upgrading. I've heard of other folks using install CDs that they downloaded (not sure where they got the CDs; assuming Microsoft's website) and also using USB drive installers, but again, is it worth your time is the question. If your system's over 4 years old, I will say it isn't.

Just seen that if you have it on your system you are literally giving Microsoft the right to spy on you. Will really be 'One World' then.

"WARNING... FREE MICROSOFT 10... YEAH RIGHT???
... ITS SETTING UP A NWO ZERO HUMAN RIGHTS FUTURE

Its reward is something probably paid for by world elite... you accept its full recording rights to all records and emails and passwords on your computer...
A quote from the article user terms in the link that is tiny print and many pages not meant to be read...

"We will access, disclose and preserve personal data, including your content (such as the content of your emails, other private communications or files in private folders), when we have a good faith belief that doing so is necessary to protect our customers or enforce the terms governing the use of the services."

ie... when laws change to be more strict and the law needs your record of life habits... they have everything showing your motives.. your pattern of life if you are suddenly arrested in violating something absurd like being in an anti government peaceful protest... or collecting rain water... or growing your own vegetables.

They pull your 'record of life' folder...

You are judged accordingly as per your 'proven' habits and what you wrote in private emails taken now... VERBATIM...

If found guilty... what would be the motive of a new world order?"

There is no such thing as true privacy Sallyanne. I have any intention of breaking law so I really don't care. Still, I do use Virtualbox (Windows XP) to conduct all of my online affairs which is sort of isolated from my host (Win10) OS. :)

I guess there isn't much about me that is worth spying on any how. (Like even if they did they wouldn't get much)

The place to start at for a Win10 download is:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software ... ndows10ISO 3GB to 4GB depending on version.

Choose your existing 'flavour' Home/Pro/32/64bit, N versions are for Europe and do not contain Media Player (a bonus :) )

I downloaded the ISO, burnt it to DVD, for a Win7 user.
A friend of mine, downloaded to usb, started the install from inside Win7 and says it all proceeded smoothly. That was last Friday, maybe a different story next Friday. AFAIK If you boot off it will wipe the drive and you get a clean Win10 install.

I use linux but the M$ site still permits a download.
If it comes from Microsoft, wait a few months for the initial bugs to be sorted and then think about updating.

You are usually always online unless you disable it. For example, Windows update must be online. I don't want all of my family pictures on the internet. You don't need to do something illegal, many times old photos can be embarrassing.

Those who use the argument; "I'm not doing anything wrong, so I have nothing to hide.", completely miss the point of privacy. Those who hold that position would naturally have no problem submitting to daily searches of their homes and daily body cavity inspections, because after all, if they have nothing to hide...

Don't get me wrong Tux; angered personally about all the stuff they collect on me no doubt. Perfect angel I'm not and trust me, I post my opinions (elsewhere; try not to here) that would probably anger some folks here but that's why I don't post them here. lol

Bottom line is, we have entities (whether government or even ISPs) collect information about US whether we want them to or not. One of the reasons I run programs such as Privoxy and Chameleon and also use Virtual Machines. Still, if I'm really honest with myself, I know they still are both watching and collecting. :)

I am sort of on the fence, nothing to hide but annoyed that they collect my info. Next up is gonna be controversy over the use of drones. The right to fly anywhere vs the right to not have a drone staring at you in your yard or house, not to mention the idiots who fly right into the airline lanes!

Well, that is a different issue altogether. What we are discussing here is voluntarily surrendering, pretty much everything you do online, to a corporation that sells you a license to an operating system. Everyone should be aware of what they are giving up. The same applies to smart phones, as well.

As you say, there are other choices. For those who are concerned, they could use Linux, secure their browser and practice good privacy protection habits while online. If Windows is needed for specific apps, then a VM would be a good choice for that. For those who don't care one way or the other, that's their prerogative.
