If you mean the XFCE desktop environment you select it when you log in instead of gnome.

@ Erisian,
Installing software in general in Linux is done with root privileges.
Logging in into a desktop is done as user.
Most serious Linux distro's won't even allow you to login to a desktop as root.
The reason is that the desktop is connected to the X server.
Servers are easier to compromise by intruders.
X is the part that produces the windows, icons and all that.
Gerard.

Well I was over in that XFCE place and it was such a mess I had to get out of there cuz it is like a foreign world. There was 90 small folders and files on my desktop, I didn't know what to do with them, anyway, couldn't wait to get back here to Gnome. Maybe some day I will go back and try to figure it out.

Might have been better if it came with a road atlas.

It's a very basic and lightweight desktop but it's a good choice as a 2nd emergency desktop, in the event your primary desktop happens to go south and you can't get back in. :bigthup .

It's also a pretty good option for old, under powered PCs that might still have some life in them.

Finally Gimp-PhotoComix_Lab-2.8.1 is ready for Windows and just now you switch to Fedora :gaah

That of course is a good idea
except from my selfish point of view : if you are more on Linux :spring you may be less attracted to test something in Windows :crash

But on the other hand you are giving a good example..too long time that i don't use my linux partition that really need to be upgraded or replaced
