Member on GL who contribute to scripts/plug-ins or resources can now see the number of man-hours (labor) they have saved and the value of those hours if they were paid $10/hr for those hours.
Obviously, it's just a very rough estimate based on if each script/plug-in/resource file was used 10 times and each use saved 15 minutes of labor (This isn't accurate as some are only ever used once and forgotten and some are repeatedly used day-to-day.

It's only for fun. Please don't ask me to pay you what number of hours you've helped saved :hehe

Our moderator (Wallace)'s stat ... I think it's mostly from Windows Desktop backgrounds.

using the same metrics, ofnuts tools (if downloads were counted from beginning of there existence) and not updated files resets. I would guess ofnuts are in the millions of dollars by now.

I got the dl data of ofnuts scripts: 42617 dls
so using same metrics this would've saved 51.22 years (working years).
and would have valued (if $10/hr) at $1,065,425

other coders probably contributed a significant amount of years and dollar values too but because it's on GC, not in one place, I am unable to pull this fun data from.
I am sure dinasset and others have contributed tons, but i have no access to GC db to write a custom page for you.

Thanks for people who create tutorials too. Each tutorial's view (or number of views) probably equates to a number of hours for users entertained/taught.
I should add a stat for that too for fun.

There would be a lot of happy coders if folk paid out. Just can only say I appreciate all you coders that have helped me over the years. :)

I agree with Lyle.

The original premise, that coders are saving many working years and millions of dollars per year is not entirely true.
The reason is because art is undervalued for most of us and even undervalued for commercial use.
Humans are highly evolved opportunists and usually wait till an artist is dead before declaring how good they were. Then they exploit whatever they can to the max.
Computer generated art appears to fill a more insignificant role because most people think the computer produced the art by itself.

Saving time and money...
We should extend this concept to chipmakers and hardware designers :)
Most still don't know that the worlds number 1 CPU maker buried a Unix operating system (Minix) in its processors for decades before it was exposed as a 'bug' :)
That saved centuries of programming work for humans who were using something they didn't know existed.
Ultimately, saving centuries of work is dangerous for humans because they will only destroy themselves faster IMHO :)
