Sorry if there's already a similar thread started.

Some people's username is more obvious than others. Where's your username come from?

I was a moderator on an MP4 forum. I used to create themes, (My start using GIMP) and write guides showing how to fix bricked players, etc. Anywhos, my username there was The Warrior Poet. I got it from the movie Braveheart, where he said they fought like warrior poets, and won their freedom. I am of Scottish descent, so I rolled with it. People there called me warrior for short, so I dropped the poet. Kind of boring, I guess, but that's where it comes from.

EDIT: On a side note, I did the ancestry thing on Ancestry.com awhile back, and I am a descendant of William Wallace. Turns out, he's my 21st 1st cousin, through my great, great grandmother who migrated to the USA from Scotland, with my great, great grandfather.

I had never used an alias of any kind anywhere before. Neuromancer was one of my favorite books. I haven't re-read it since 1985 or thereabouts. I was sure someone would already be using that. I had been visiting, lurking, the two or three main GIMP sites at the time -- Chat, Forum and Learn -- but what flashed thru my mind was from A Hard Day's Night and the old man in the closet scene. "He looks a right lurker ... " Nobody, I thought -- and checked on Google -- would be using that combination and certainly not in the figuring I was making. I think the term now is actually used in reference to "the spectrum" of autism. I have no problem with that.

Oh, sorry, where are my manners? Thank you for asking.

Not seen a thread like it since I have been here.

In another forum way back I tried to lodge the name Grumpy Old Man but it was already taken.

But, because I really was old and grumpy, I persisted and rearranged the name to become OldManGrumpy there and used the same name here in Gimp Chat when I joined.

On holiday, a long time ago, I came across the name Jappaloe. I immediately thought it was funny and had an image of an elephant with it... And I love elephants. I started using this name more often. My real name is Ineke and that means "name of a king" or "God provides and makes better"

When I started on the internet, one of the first forums I was on was Fractal Forums. Fractals are associated with chaos theory so I chose Erisian as my username and it just stuck with me. Eris is the Greek goddess of chaos and discord so Erisian is one who takes after Eris.

My actual name is George, aka Geo.
The name Wallace is from the comic books.
Wallace Rudolph, who is The Flash.
I was very frightened of the internet back when I first joined Gimp Chat.
The reason I didn't use my real name was out of fear and to try and protect my identity.

My real name is Cemal. Its meaning in Turkish is facial beauty.
They call me Jamal in English. I found the name Diagram while developing Microsoft game systems.
I met the world of graphic design when I was 18. I had very effective graphic web pages on Yahoo.
All of them are in the past. Now I am a retired graphic designer. I am 52 years old.
The meaning of your name is a beautiful concept, thank you.

The meaning in spanish for Pocholo is "Cute and Nice". One of my Mom's school cook coworkers told me this nickname at the cafeteria and ever since, everyone of my friend from school call me "Pocholo". By the way, my name is Luis.

Awesome peeps.

Wallace, I too have been careful on the internet. Have never posted a photo of myself. I don't mind saying my real name though, which is Jim.

The name Ronan is of Irish origin and translates as "little seal" or "baby seal". It is a diminutive form of the Old Irish word "rón", meaning "seal".

Thus, the name Ronan carries the image of a small, perhaps playful seal, and has roots in Irish culture.

In the late 1970's I was stationed at Sembach AB Germany. I had elected to not bring my family. On the weekends I would go to the NCO club. In that club were two rooms for concert type events one up stairs and one in the basement. The one up stairs played rock an roll while the one in the basement played country music. Both had live bands and they were rather good. I was in the basement sipping on my (bier) and listing to the country music, one of the females I knew came down and said come up stairs an listen to the rock. I said no she got frustrated and said "oh your such a wildman". Yup wildman became my nick.
Always,
Wildman

My username is my first name and last initial. There's no secret or meaning to it. Just simple and easy. :)
