Ello all. My wife is looking for a free ebook if possible on the art and science sorta speak of layout and seign. IE, why should i put the image here and not here. She is learning the gimp, inkscape and scribus right now. I have found her a free online scribus course (amazing by the way. i followed it and madea magazine. awesome) done by a professor at a college or high school.... he posted all his tutorials and files online. tons of info. awesome awesome.

https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=a1938bc6 ... =documents

http://scribusstuff.org/content/show.ph ... 51c5a08c0a

there is the scribus link and the template link. the cookies tutorial is fantastic and very indepth.

anyway, the point is, she is learning some stuff with graphic arts and now she wants to read a book on the science of layout, color and design principles. She is the type who likes to not wing it until she knows it. haha

She is following the digital arts course by steve, the editor and creator of gimp magazine. also very awesome course. worth every freakin penny.

tahnks guys

If you like your palettes, I posted 5 in 2 posts in this thread. I can post more interesting palettes if need be.

dang, that color tool is awesome. thanks for all the info. now she can star making her book she wants to make.

on the color designer website, what is the triad scheme used for? i know that it means three but is it saying to use the top set for main work and bottom two for sub category stuff or is it just simply stating that all of those colors will work together?

thanks

maty

Triad means 3 equally spaced colors in the color wheel.

Color Theory is the most important thing in Graphic Design, along with Typography. Using grids is another thing to understand. Learning the software will come with time.

Color Scheme Designer is cool too because it exports Gimp palettes. You can't upload images, I just use this method.

Ah I didn't pay attention to the export palette, most of the time I do screenshots, the difficult thing with palettes is to sort them in an efficient way, to link them to some sort of reality because I often end up surrounded by palettes but without objects to connect with. Ideally, I should take the time to make these connections happen...
