A new attempt in Black and White. I corrected pure white and black. Then brightness and contrast and masks. What more can be done?

on your outcome (which is OK) I simply added some gray on the sky (I personally don't like white skies)

The main problem with this image is the second train in the background. Simply , it should not be there. so I lightened and blurred it. Secondly I blurred the background (left side of the image) of the focus train with a layermask. The B/W treatment is just a slight hue . One can only use 1 colour to remain a b/w image

You are right wbool63, what you have made makes the main object (the first train) be the focus in the picture. Thank you so much for sharing your experience. :clap

I embossed one layer with a bump map and applied the original over the top in dissolve mode. :bigthup

Tried to make it look like an old glass slide photo.

Akros, your version of antique look is great, I like it as the image is perfect for that look. Did you use filter -decor - old photo? I can' appreciate yet when a photo is or isn't a pure white or black pure. I have to check it in colours - levels.

Yah,
I would love the Gimp could record the steps and settings used.
After seeing the outcome of systemx, I just applied some filters to the image that I was already editing.
From what I could remember: Decor (old photo, coffee stain), g'mic-old photograph
