The question I have is,
which image do you like better.

The one with the background gradient,
or the other with transparency?

The gradient background image looks better I think. I was a fan of them back when I was a teenager, but that was a short time. I like your Viking image best, I know it was a lot of work to make.

The image with the gradient looks bigger to me,
but they're both the same dimensions.

I found that Viking Ship image and just had to make it into a pop-out photo.

I was a KISS fan as well,
but more of a Gene Simmons fan than anything.
Some people have a strong dislike for him,
due to what my be perceived as arrogance on his part.
I see him as someone who tells it like it is,
in a matter of fact kind of way.
The truth is often a bitter pill to swallow.
That could be seen as unpleasant and or difficult for some to accept.

*Just for clarification*
To achieve a good pop-out effect,
there needs to be part of the main subject,
inside the boundary of the photo.
While another part/parts of the main subject outside this boundary.

I'm sure you're aware of this,
however it's still a nice image.
