Greetings all,

My first post here, and not a happy one! :-)

When I start GIMP and it runs through its various startup tasks (while displaying the splash screen)
I get a "gmic_gimp.exe - Application Error" error window, with the text "The application was unable
to start correctly (0xc000007b). Click OK to close the application."

After closing the error window GIMP loads up, but G'MIC is nowhere to be seen.

Prior to dropping in here, I've spent some time on Google and came across the same issue being
reported on Win 7 last year.

I have a new install of GIMP and followed the default G'MIC install using the latest installer
Win32 installer from sourceforge.

I'm a bit stuck and unsure what I should check first.

Any suggestions or comments greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Mike.

Try downloading it again. I had the same issues on same system http://gmic.sourceforge.net/gimp.shtml

This was the only way I could get Gmic to run after downloading an errant

version (now corrected)

1 Download a fresh version of G'mic

2 go into your user plugins and zip the entire contents, leave them there for

now.

3 Delete all of the contents of the user plugins folder except for the zip

file you made (you may need a file later).

4 If your G'mic is an executable then run it, otherwise you need to manually

copy the files (not copy-to) and paste them into the user plugins folder.

5 re-install GIMP without un-installing it.

6 Run GIMP and you should have G'mic.

*** The reason for the above is that Security will not allow the DLL files to

be replaced when you re-install. if there is an errant one then it needs to

be removed and replaced.

Dont forget to refresh the filters ONLINE and OFFLINE.

If it all goes well, delete the zip file.

If you have Mcafee installed buy headache pills;}

I'm guessing it's a duplicate DLL. G'MIC for Windows comes with all required DLLs. If you didn't use the installer (.exe) you may have added an unneeded DLL your system already had.
Search for duplicates of the following files.
├── jpeg62.dll
├── libfftw3-3.dll
├── libgcc_s_dw2-1.dll
├── libpng3.dll
├── libpthread-2.dll
├── libstdc++-6.dll
├── libtiff3.dll
└── zlib1.dll

If you find any duplicate DLLs in your Gimp user folder (.gimp-2.*) rename them using this format.
jpeg62.dll.old
Restart Gimp.

Hi guys,

Thanks so much for such quick replies!

I've had a further rummage around and I think I stumbled upon the cause of a problem.

When I installed GIMP, I deselected the options for 32-bit plugins. I guess that G'MIC was
choking when it tried to start without the required extensions/dlls.

Many apologies for being such a cabbage-head!

I reinstalled GIMP, using the default options and everything seems to work okay now.

I do have a few other questions/observations about G'MIC, but I stick them in another thread.

Cheers,

Mike.
