I was wondering if g'mic has a "constrained diffusion" filter? I've looked through the various filters but don't see something like it. I can't post links yet, but if you google "Color image dequantization by Constrained Diffusion" you can find the pdf. The description in the paper is "The Constrained Diffusion algorithms works by iterating two simple steps, a linear diffusion step, where the image is smoothed, and a nonlinear constraint step, where the pixel values of the resulting image are clipped to not differ more than a desired threshold from the original."

Finally found the PDF (click but be cautious; I'm double-sandboxed; likely you are not). Result looks beyond impressive; would be cool to have a g'mic or other GIMP preset for this.
