Using a photo of a spring shot and using G'MIC, I put rain and a rainbow in it. Probably doesn't look very convincing, but I tried.

I think the rainbow and the blue sky gives away any attempt at making it seem real.
Also the "rain", looks more like snow then it does rain.

I don't intend to be over critical toward your work. I'm only pointing out what I see, as I view it.

Sallyanne, if you set the rainbow behind the buildings (just on the sky) it will certainly look more realistic.
The image is nice, it's worth an attempt...

Ok, using a mask I put the rainbow behind the buildings, made the 'rain' less opaque and darkened the sky.
The ground isn't wet because it has just started ;)

that's nice, I guess you may put the rain more visible (just a little) and blur the rainbow (on the borders)

Yes, I see the rain, but IMO (as opposed to Wallace's opinion...) rain should be more visible....
more or less as you did in the first picture
