I put 2.7.1 on my laptop again last night to see if it worked right, which it did. (The last time I put it on it kept crashing) Almost everything worked right except Gimp themes 1.0 and gmic. Is there an issue between gmic and 2.7.1 and Gimp themes or is it a problem with my system?

NOT only gmic the problem will be with most of the third party plugin
(well the weird thing is that should not happen with the very last GMIC at least on Windows
..but you use Linux right? )

Basically some old gimp dll (not sure of the name and extension of linux equivalent of win ".dll"...but is not relevant will be reported in the error messages) were replaced or updates...but extra plugin written for gimp 2.6 will look for the older dll
To solve if you still have a copy of Gimp 2.6 in the system is really easy;

Install another couple of plugin in 2.7 load, and look the error message if any and copy the library names
Then also try to run a 3rd party plugin...and again copy the library name from the error messages if any

And then search that libraries in Gimp 2.6 and simply copy and paste in the correspondent directory in gimp 2.7

If you unistalled gimp still you may get the library from the NET

Any developer would say is not a clean fix is the only that will solve
(the clean fix will be edit and and recompile all the plugin one by one
with risk of waste of time because changes in libraries may be temporary and other changes are still possible before 2.8 ).

Basically if you follow my tips third party plugin will search and find their libraries, while the bundled ones will search and find the newer, with no real risk of interferences

Yeah the best you can do is try and copy some of the DLL files from 2.6 into 2.7 and see if that works.That is essentially what i had to do to get everything to work including, third party plug-ins, python and PSPI.

What i did was watch when the program loaded and see which DLL errors come up, find those DLL files in 2.6 and copy them to 2.7

That worked pretty good for me. =)
For some reason some of the DLL files weren't included with the 2.7 version it seems.
Maybe because it's a test version?
