I had no idea it could! Making GIMP 2.6 run more than one script/plugin had never been a good idea in my previous experience.
I knew that GIMP would never allow you to run two Script-Fu's at the same time. It still doesn't.
GTK can handle just one at a time.
Tried to run Python script atop of Script-Fu or C plugin and all other possible combinations.
Always the same result - plugins would crash or even worse - GIMP itself. Back then I'd come
to conclusion that it's not possible in principle...until 3 days ago, when I decided to test 64-bit
GIMP 2.8.2 for that.

Made this video two days ago and tonight finished editing and uploaded final version on YouTube.
This video is very dense in terms of information thrown at you, I would recommend to pause
it at times and watch at HD resolution. Direct link http://youtu.be/LFOZILJNx4k

It is also possible to run 2 C plugins or 2 Python scripts at the same time. I've tested it with MathMap/Beatify
and LayerFX/feca_HDR plugin pairs.
I'm going to say this again - I had no idea it was possible!
In video's description I made an assumption that could be totally wrong.
Now I'm dying of curiosity if this could be done in 32-bit GIMP (regardless of OS)
or 64-bit GIMP on Linux, Mac OS systems? Please, let me know.

I love to discover new things about GIMP. And it's always fun for me.

I usually run a filter, then realize that I should have done so on a duplicate layer so I duplicate it before the filter completes (do this a lot actually). You can't even do this in PS. I've run filters on separate layers before with no issue too, but very seldom do this. So, you can do some multitasking in the GIMP which is cool. :)

Hi, lylejk! I often duplicate layer GIMP filter is working on too, lol. Well, in my video I make GIMP multitask on 7 separate images and accordingly 7 different filters are being used. It's more than just some multitasking, if you ask me ;)
And it's doing it fast, very fast!

I'd love to test it on MAC for you but its really beyond my scope..have no idea where to begin let alone carry on with it.

I'm glad you like it, akky!

An update for curious ones out there. I have more testing done, in one of them I shot a sequence of slowest Script-fu's on a group of images/layers. Although GIMP went nuts throwing warnings at me, nothing crashed or froze. It queued script-fu's and executed them
in order they were called. Cool! I'm loving GIMP!

Wow! a very good video to demonstrate the GIMP capabilities.
Can you tell me hardware specifications of your computer?
Mainly microprocessor and amount of RAM.
Thank you.

Edit:
Maybe to know if it is multi-tasking, you could open the system monitor and see how many processes (such as python or script-fu) are running simultaneously while GIMP is working.

Hi, YAFU. 16GB RAM, Intel Core i7 960, AMD Radeon 7750 and I added specs to the video description too. Thanks for the request.

It is certainly possible to see but I find it hard to track because so many other processes are running on the background. I can certainly see gimp 2.8.exe and pythonw when Python script is running but with script-fu's it's not always shown in resource monitor (maybe because of the extremely low resource consumption?) Out of C plugins gmic is the most resource consuming plugin, it can take up to 12% OF CPU.

i7? You make me envious K1TesseraEna. I have an old 1998 vintage barebones AMD Dual Processor MB (http://www.gigabyte.com/products/produc ... 34&dl=1#ov). Still hoping for a good job and then I'll upgrade to an i7 or better system and maybe even get 32GBytes RAM (have 6Gs now). lol

:)

Hi, lylejk! I was happy with my 32-bit XP and then, one day (3.5 yrs ago) it went dead right in the middle of very important work. Thoughtfully enough, I had external back-up drive and no time to waste, so I went to the computer store and got myself this Dell Studio XPS for $800 (it was 'open box' along with another discount). 64-bit Vista with 6GB RAM. But I kept in mind that it had i7 CPU and really good Motherboard with triple channel memory, crossfire. Gradually but surely, I've been upgrading hardware ever since, (increased memory to 16, added extra eSATA HDD, more powerful PSU, speedy low-profile videocard), finally updated to WIN 7. Altogether, it cost me another $350 (I never buy anything if it's not half the market price, lol). I must get my old XP fixed though. Out of respect. For 6 yrs of excellent service (can't say that about Vista, LOL)

Whoops; should have said 2008. lol

Still a dinosaur compared to what you have. I've had my eye on the i7 for over a year now. Again, just an eye (can't afford such a system at this moment; lol). I actually had my other XP box (originally win2000; upgraded the OS in 2004; lol) back in 2001 and it lasted to end of 2007. I still have a 2002 Dell laptop that I occassionally power up. 2 years ago, I decided to update the memory for my laptop from 256M to 1G and man did that make a big difference. lol

The barebones that I use now I got as a Christmas gift from my brother. Spent around another $250 for more memory and CDRom and harddrive (barebones didn't even have a CDRom or harddrive; believe my brother got jipped, but I was doing PC repair from 2005 to 2010 so it wasn't hard to add a few things to it). They did use cheap parts in it and the power supply and one of the memory modules failed since I got it (very difficult to troubleshoot memory issues; almost has the symptoms of a virus), but I was still running XP Pro on this machine at that time (upgraded in Nov. 2009 to Win7 64-bit). It's been a very reliable box and still does what I want it to do and so long as I can make edits that others accuse me being a space alien, then I'll continue using it, but still, the i7 just pure and simple rocks with 15 cpus (combination of actually and virtual cpus; I know the deal. lol) and such. Last Christmas, I did get some money which I used to upgrade from the internal video to a GT 520 and it did help a lot with Pixel bender (only reason I wanted the new card) but I haven't played with PB now since April. lol

The XPS boxes from DELL are their cadallacs no doubt, but when I was still doing PC repair, the power supplies went bad on many of the systems that I had to work on and they used a pretty unique PS (therefore expensive) as I recall. Use a UPS and you should be fine and you probably are using one. :)
