Metallic Highlights on Stroke Challenge

he4rty: hmm... converting gradient to pattern sets the (rather slow and rusty, but still) wheels of my brains spinning...
i think the highlight effect on your text looks good, but i think the contours should be sharper. the hex relief background is just lovely, though!

maybe, i dislike using texteffectscripts, and i hardly know most of them, so could be

also, how did you convert the gradient into a pattern ?
isnt that the same as filling a layer with the gradient ?

i agree with AnMal, your result looks fuzzy, could be from the inner and outer shadows but the hexagonal BG is a very nice touch !

Esper - Your results reminded me of this script, so no,doesn't look the same just similar enough to jog my memory.

I agree it does look a bit fuzzy and could possibly do with a bit of sharpening and yes converting a gradient to a pattern is the same as filling a layer with a gradient but the script only uses patterns so I had to convert the filled layer to a pattern to be able to use it in the script.

So I've sharpened the whole image and adjusted the shadows as well

you might wanna try, bevelling the stroke and then overlay with the gradient/pattern set to a suitable mode
adds the best of two worlds

If I understood you correctly had a play with that Idea and my results are now my new sig.

I found this tut on you tube. It's called, "Gimp : Chrome Metal Texture Tutorial' it's interesting how he didn't use a gradient, but instead he simply used a fuzzy paintbrush to create the different colors that give the text it's metallic look around the edge of the text.

Here's my stab at it...

This is how it's done.
Create your text using white letters (name layer 'fat'),
alpha select the letters and shrink by 3 or 4,
copy, add layer (name layer 'skinny') and past.

Go to the 'fat' layer and then go to,
Filters>Alpha to Logo>Chrome,
use default setting, it was that simple. :hehe

Note
I used a 640 x 400 canvas, centered the letters and the size of the font was pretty big but not to big.
