There are two instances of Image Properties in my Gimp.

File > Properties

Image > Image Properties

Anything I enter into File > Properties gets deleted.

In Image > Image Properties I can add comments that remain after I have saved the image.

Wondering why there are two Image Properties dialogs.

:lol That's kind of funny. I'm wondering if it is a Linux-only phenomenon.

But out of curiosity, what is the File -> Properties dialog for?

For viewing and editing metadata.

Why doesn't it save the data typed there?

Because it wasn't finished, but for some reason was made part of the
stable release anyway.

Thanks Odin.

Image > Image Properties > Comment is a nice place to store info about your image. Font & size, Pattern, Gradient, Color number, brush, etc. It saves with the image.
