There is an item at the bottom of my Gimp File menu called Snapshot. When I run the cursor over it it tells me it saves the undo history.

When I click it, it saves a copy of the image to my desktop with a number, but when I open it there's no Undo history.

Does anyone know how to use this feature? I can't find anything in the Gimp manual about it.

Must be some extension because it's not in my 2.8.10.

An XCF file does not contain an undo history, so it must be alluding to the undo history of the current image, but then File>Save a copy will also not impact the current undo history, so I don't see the purpose of this addition.

I have 2.8.14 and I've not seen it in any older versions.

Thank you, Rich! That's it. I don't remember when I downloaded it and have never used it.

Snapshot is handy for tutorial authors.

Thanks Odin! How quickly I forgot. I see that I even responded to the thread. I can certainly see the merit of it. I could have used it for the hypocycloid brush tut. Would have made making the images for the tut much faster and easier.

Indeed it is a very poorly worded popup blurb. I will modify it later this evening.
