Is gimp development version slower?

I have installed gimp from git, development "2.9" version. I wanted to try higher bit precision support and other features. But when I scale down a large image, it takes centuries to complete. I even have OpenCL enabled (and the system is supposedly capable). Could we expect this is going to be resolved in the first official 2.9 point release?

I heard they recently changed the algorithm for downsizing, but I wouldn't have expected it to be noticeably slower. Interesting.

This is a development version, not fit for "production". Use at your own risk.

Anything can happen, you can have trace code remaining and slowing things, or some optimization turned off.

You can start to worry about performance when this becomes a "Gimp 2.10 release candidate".

Thanks for the response. I am just stuck on gimp dev now because I've saved a lot of files in 16 bit mode, and 2.8 doesn't support them.
