As some might know, I am not using the most recent gimp since I do not have the w10 machine working, I have been offered a mac, so the question is, What should I do? Is mac good for gimp? Is gimp good in mac?
Thanks for your thoughts.

Go with Linux instead.

I use a macbook. Gimp just works (using 2.10.6). I have not used either Linux or Windows, so I cannot compare.

I have used Gimp on a macbook pro for years, although I have not upgraded past Yosemite OS and still use Gimp 2.8

The real question is "Is mac good?". The latest generation of McBookPro's managed to cast doubts even in the mind of my family's MacBoi.

OK; I'm not a MAC person so my opinion's likely meaningless to you, but it is what it is. The MACs are a completely overpriced control freaked product, thus, a useless boat anchor imo. You asked and I replied. To each his own. lol

Returned to edit my post, I had second view on mac.
A much deeper than the initial, I opened one and found same hardware than other brands are using.
That's one helluva expensive logo.

At the moment I would say GIMP 2.8 is better for mac users than 2.10....I am finding a few things that so far I have been unable to use in 2.10 and some things that are no longer working in 2.10...but I will still keep playing with it and transferring between them both...Mac users using MacGimp 2.10 are a tad better off than the traditional version as well...but again, I will keep playing. My findings so far are these.

1. Line Border there but not working.
2 Drop Shadow not working to my liking.
3. no GMIC
4 Goat exercise noted on filter list.
5 Blur radius does not appear to be working for me.
Even with adjustments. Blur radius legacy is working to a slight degree..
Done twice to get any obvious effect.
6. changed over to Parthas version and find it much more serviceable
7. Our Line Border script is available in both versions but works in neither.
8. found that drop shadow (legacy) version is working better in McGimp.
9. I found that the default Theme was difficult to see the tool options onscreen..have changed it to gray, dark is also better on the eye. it can be changed to colour by going to preferences/interface/icon theme
10.GMIC is available in McGIMP
11. Mostly the same tools are all available but work and look a little different.
12 I found that crop image is now called crop to content and …I havent been successful in getting it to work when there are many layers and selecting one of them..it will work however if you merge all layers and then crop to content,
Part 2:

1. If you go to Script-FU in the menu bar at the top, go to Layer Effects/Drop Shadow, I believe the drop shadow there is more effective but t depends on what you want with your own design. For me this is good.

I’ve been using only Macs’ since the 1980’s.
I had a Laptop at one point which ran Win XP and I can recall spending most of my time cleaning out viruses and don’t understand how people ever get used to that crap.
Macs’ have little to none of that fuss, all these years, to deal with.

My current Mac is an aging 2012 iMac using Sierra 10.12.6.
I have every version of gimp there is/was, but the one I use is usually 2.8.14 and it’s only one of the many that G’Mic works.
The G’Mic is only vs. 1.7.3 but still great fun to work with.

Yes, Macs can be pricy, because Apple is mainly a hardware company but PC external drives & ssd’s can be used if needed.

But Hey, what ever gets the job done, right?

"External" is the important word, and has its problems: AFAIK on recent macs you have to purchase a separate adapter since is is severely connector-challenged.

The "internal" devices are out of reach. If you spill coffee on your MacBook Air, it's dead. And you can't extract the disk to use it on another machine, since it's soldered. Better keep very good backups.

Wow, I've never owned any apple product. I certainly have no desire to do so either.

My wife loves her Iphone though, no matter how I try to explain it's deficiencies. I pick my battles and that one isn't worth fighting for. At least she is happy using Linux on her computer....

I would agree with you 100% on this. But I am willing to have a go at the others when they come to hand and I always come back to 2.8.14 . for the same reason

Educated Mac users would keep backups in any case but also windows programs can be run on a Virtual machine quite successfully but why would one want to subject it to the possibility of virus's when they don't have to...Personally I do have several virtual pc's running on my VMware but hardly ever have a need to open them up these days and then only to change a file type to something useable on my mac and never connect it to the internet . I too have been using mac machines since late 80's and have never had a virus and never had one crash on me and as well keep 2 backup machines running on an alternate cycle. I find it amusing that it is always a PC user who starts the argument regarding PC vs Mac..its a personal choice and I don't think anyone really needs to compete as each has its advantages and disadvantages..we are all lucky with GIMP that it just works on anything. The increasing number of members here using a mac for gimp is growing and should be seen as equals as users.
