Is it possible to use in gimp portable 2.10.8 of samj this help file proposed for gimp 2.8.1 here:

Yes, it works. Just follow the directions in the zip

Some files go in ..path-to../Gimp-2.10.6_Portable-32bit-64bits/bin/ https://i.imgur.com/7q7RmEM.jpg

The help folder goes in ..path-to../Gimp-2.10.6_Portable-32bit-64bits/share/gimp/2.0/ https://i.imgur.com/t0bGvt6.jpg

Make sure the prefernces are set up. Do not use the Gimp browser, it does not work with Gimp 2.10 use the web browser option (can be an issue if using, say, firefox) https://i.imgur.com/DxpG8WH.jpg

it works

The folder "help" contains 2 folders:"en" ( 425 KB) and "fr" ( 431 KB)
They each contain 1010 bat files
So can I delete the "in" folder?

Short answer - yes

Longer answer - when in doubt about deleting anything, move it out somewhere safe as a backup or rename to disable. When certain no longer needed, then delete.

Edit: the file gimp_en.chm is 26MB, you do not need that either for French help.

I did not see that one in the folder "bin" ..
26.6 MB is not very much but already Gimp is very very long to open
