whats the best technique to make diagonal stripes ?

i love these industrial type of looking, yellow/black diagonal stripes

whats the best technique for creating them ? (by hand, with filters, scripts, paths, etc.)

i just made these by using rectangular selections, filling them with black and yellow and then rotating by 45°, then duplicating the layer and filling in the gaps

Another way is to use the Blend Tool with the Hard Edge gradient. Set the Shape to Linear, and Repeat to either Sawtooth or Triangle, then "paint" your stroke perpendicular to the direction of your stripes. The length of your stroke is either the width of your stripes (Triangle repeat) or half their width (Sawtooth). Hold down the CTRL key while you paint to make sure your stroke is at exactly a 45 degree angle.

This pattern warning 20x20 actually comes standard with Gimp.

i remember seeing that....came in handy as a template when i tried to make the pattern, thanks Rod !

i made a pattern 300x300pixels, black and transparent, so you can use it with a variety of colors

that was actually quite simple and much quicker than making a pattern !
also you have control over the angle of the stripes

This is the hardedge gradient method for making a stripped pattern.

Select a foreground and background colors.
In this case the colors are yellow and black respectively.
Within the gradients dialog.
Mode should be normal.
Set the shape to liner and set the repeat to sawtooth wave.
Stretch out the gradient form one side to the other.
Long stretch will give less strips, shorter gives more.

It's that simple!

Go here, https://github.com/LinuxBeaver/GIMP-GEG ... s/releases

You put the binary (dll) in C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\gegl-0.4\plug-ins and restart GIMP. Go to GEGL Operation and look for "Stripes"
if on GIMP 3 you still have to put the binary in the location above, but you can just search "stripes" after running the plugin you'll see its simple.

In GIMP 3 RC1 its re-editable when using the plugin but not the gradients tool. I agree too that i'd be better If GIMP could do it non-destructive out of the box with the gradient tool.

Don't get me wrong GEGL is cool and all.
As far as out of the box functionality,
this has to be the least complicated method that anyone can use.
Other them dropping in a pattern.

The plugin "stripes" can be edited again after applied on canvas in GIMP 3. Therefore it is termed "non-destructive"

The text in GIMP 3 is called non-destructive graphical text because it isn't just pixels and can be re-edited.

Another way right out of the box to make stripes with any gradient.
Would be to use "posterize".
