I've used Ulead PhotoImpact (later Corel PhotoImpact) for years to edit images, but that program has been orphaned. Plus, there's no Linux version of PI. I switched from Windows to Kubuntu Linux some time back and love it. I'm looking forward to building up my skill in Gimp. It's a great program, but it does things differently than PI.

Welcome to Gimp Chat, LukeDrillB. There are a lot of very good photo manipulation experts here. You'll find lots of help.

Have a look here for beginner GIMP user tutorials to get used to GIMP's user interface.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Looks like there are some awesome people who use this tool. I'm delighted that such a good program is totally free. I was unhappy that Photoshop went to a subscription-based system that meant you had to be online and you had to keep paying to use their software. Yuck. Gimp to the rescue.

Welcome LukeDrillB,

You are already skilled in photo editing, so this may be not too difficult. A lot to read here. You can ask questions. Answers follow quick here. Perhaps we can learn from you also.

I am new to Graphics. I would like to know , how to make the best use of the open source softwares in Graphics Designing, what are the latest trend in Graphics, what are all the kind of freelance projects that hit the market right now and also video tutorials on the same. Thank you.

After over 12 years using GIMP (well, technically 14 years, but the past 12 years, I really got into using the GIMP), I still look forward to getting better at the GIMP, Luke. lolol

Welcome to GIMPChat by the way. :)
