I have GIMP 2.8 that I'm using on a MacBook Air yosemite 10.10.5. Previously when I opened the program three boxes would come up. One in the middle that said GIMP, one on the left with the tools, and one on the right with layers. Now only the one in the middle opens and I can't get the other two windows. Actually, I was able to do something in View that gave me the tools, but it was not as complete as the one that used to open automatically. As far as I know I haven't done anything differently.

In Windows and Ubuntu select 'Single Window Mode' option from the menu bar (Windows-->Single Window Mode).

I did the single window mode and it made it even worse. I have my 3 windows put I can't access many of the tools because the box is too small and I can't make the box bigger.

I have a tool box, but the area at the bottom doesn't change when I select different tools. And the layer window does not have the brushes at the bottom.

Go to (Edit > Preferences)
Then go to the "Windows Management" option
Click on "Reset Saved Window Positions to Default Values"
Make sure "Save window positions on exit" is NOT checked

I don't know what I did, but it's opening with the 3 windows like it's supposed to now. Thank you.
