Hi,
I am new to GIMP & Graphics as well.
I want to know what are all the important plugins, scripts, etc,. be it anything to be added to GIMP 2.8
I use Windows 7 32-bit.
Right now faced probs with Layer via Copy/Cut plugin(i added it but couldnt find in the layer menu)..
Then what are the things to be added to GIMP to do any kind of projects that are usually done in Photoshop.I really really need your valuable suggestions, tips, etc,. on this.
Similarly for Inkscape, just wanted to know that if anything such sort of things(plugins, etc,.) to be added in Inkscape as well.
Looking forward for your wonderful replies.
Thanks & Regards
k.Sujatha

Hi Sujatha
Welcome to Gimp Chat

If you are new to Gimp and Graphics then my suggestion is not to add any plugins or scripts initially. Stick to the standard Gimp to start with.

Gimp (and any graphics editor) has quite a steep learning curve. Takes time to get going. Once you are familiar with standard Gimp and need some extra functionality for a particular project then ask here. Someone will recommend a plugin.

For example, you are asking about a layer copy/cut plugin. That can easily be done with standard Gimp without the plugin. Doing it without the plugin is probably a good learning exercise. Later you can decide whether you want that plugin. (I don't have that plugin.)

G'MIC is a popular add-on. It is a collection of about 500 plugins. But each of those 500 has its own learning curve. I would suggest wait a while before getting that.

Don’t be afraid to start over. It’s a new chance to rebuild what you want.

Welcome to GimpChat Sujatha :).

I can't really help with plugins but might be able to give a few pointefs about drawing and painting with Gimp.

Anyway I hope you enjoy your Gimping!

Welcome to Gimp Chat. My recommendation is to install the latest G'MIC plug-in for your system platform.
