I'm brand new here, need help with clone tool

brand new here, can't seem to make clone tool work, please help. I've tried the latest version, 3.04 and then gone back and tried previous versions, clone tool will simply not work. I've used photoshop for years and I know how to use a clone tool. Can someone help me with this?

Check that tool size is appropriate,
also use CTRL to select the source.

Move the crosshair of the tool to the location to use as the source,
Ctrl + Click to select the source and begin cloning.

Seems to work OK for me using GIMP 3 on Windows.

I cloned some of the apples from the top to the bottom.

People may need to know your OS first, I dont know if it is different from OS to OS.

In Windows you just click on the clone icon :clone

, Then making sure you have the tool options open, assuming you want to clone from an image make sure your source is on image and alignment set to other than none or registered.
If from the same image, I use image as source and for alignment either fixed or aligned if you want to clone the same areas. You may have to test the other settings to see what they do.
There is also pattern as source, which would be your open pattern if using it.
With the clone and heal brushes they work the same as the paint brush. for a straight line you can click on shift for a straight line amd take your cursor to where you want the line to go to.

I have left multiply mode on before and nothing seems to happen. Leave it on normal unless you find a better mode.

Well, I'll be darned. I put everything as you have it and it is now working. Amazing. Can't thank you enough.

it was "Force". I had it at 0 which is how it came. Putting it at "50" made the difference. Thanks again.

Also. Make sure you do not have an active selection and are working outside of it. If you have an active selection you can only work in side of that selection.
