Hello everyone. I'm new to using Gimp and all graphics software in general. Right now I'm scratching my head a lot and trying to learn Gimp to create local affiliate tv network buttons for a Pronto TSU7000 remote control. I'm running Gimp 2.6 on Windows XP Professional. Gimp was suggested by someone on remotecentral.com, so I downloaded it from a link provided there. There are numerous ready made buttons for almost any station imaginable found on remotecentral.com and I've download many and have been utilizing them, but there were none for the local network affiliates here in North Florida, so I'm trying to create my own buttons using affiliate images from the affliate websites. I'm having a problem in Gimp where I cut an image from one file and paste it to a button template in another file. Both are .png files. I scale an image down to fit the template, from 483 x 330 pixels to about 58 x 44, but when I hit "Scale" the pasted floating image goes from being clear to blurry. I couldn't find anything that would help with this specific problem using F1/Gimp help, so can anyone offer suggestions as to how to maintain a clean image after scaling down or if its even possible? Thanks.

In your layers dialog, down at the bottom you will see a small white layers icon, click that and it will add your new pasted layer.

If you do Filters > Enhance > Sharpen and sharpen it by about 20 or 30, it should clean it up quite a bit. You're scaling it down quite a bit so it won't look perfect, but the Sharpen filter will help a lot.
