Hello,

I have just begun using Gimp a couple of nights ago.
I was inspired to try it by viewing rbdflyboy threads on the Linux Lite forum, he told me about GimpChat tonight.

So far in Gimp I have added one plugin (resynthesizer), have not used it yet,I got this to follow a tutorial for removing a tattoo on a person, I want to try it on stock photo of a scar on skin on a persons back in the same location the tutorial uses for the tattoo.
I have also added one brush set (fuzzy brushes from an earlier version of Gimp it said).

I have attempted a first project following a tutorial - cutting a person from a photo and placing them onto the background of another photo. It went quite well for a first project and I'm happy with the results, I would like to get much better at this task in the future.
I wasn't able to remove the bits of background from the hair with the fuzzy brush following the tutorial as instead of removing white background it was painting a black line, I was unsure how to correct my error, so instead I cut off some of the persons hair and reshaped it a bit, so I could move them to the other background and scale/resize.
I then cropped that photo to a smaller size, as cropping and scaling/resizing is something I do often with my own photos so needed to learn how to do this in Gimp. It is far easier to do in Gimp :)
The scaling went fine, I am unsure if the scale tool maintains aspect ratio by default, or if I need to activate this ?

Welcome to Gimp Chat.
If you want to look there are lots of tutorials here in the tutorials forum.
With resizing/scaling I think a chain comes up to the right of the numbers in the option dialogue. just make sure that is linked and everything will change by ratio
can't think right now if that comes up in anything else.

Hello there! Welcome to GC!
For the foreground/background extraction you can try the extraction tool of the GMIC plugin (latest 1.6.0.1. version)
Here's the demo video viewtopic.php?f=28&t=11081

Hello,
Thank You everyone for the Welcome :) :kpix
Thank You sallyanne, for helping me with aspect ratio.
I'll be checking out the tutorials very soon.
K1TesseraEna, I have installed the GMIC plugin and had a first try of it, I will watch the demo video now.
Edit - watched demo, had a longer try with it, it's very good.
