Blimey! You are all so friendly here. I must admit I was coming in with a bit of trepidation.

One : I was using freeware for the first time after years in a corporate and slightly paranoid environment about such things.

Two: Gimp seems wonderful!! And I have been playing with it on my laptop

There was only one little problem which doesn't seem to affect things but is a bit of a concern.

When I load gimp picture files from my lap top to my datastick to use with the new pc and when I open them up I get this "quiverry/shaky" thing that happens with the on screen pointer and the box with the previews says "preview is out of date" and that picture shakes about a bit as well.

Anyway when I click on the preview picture it stops and it doesn't seem to affect what I do with the picture after it loads.

Well. I am in the southern UK area and we are battening down the hatches as we prepare for 90 mph gales tonight so I am staying in watching the sea.

You're a bit further south than me. Since reading the Daily Mail on Wednesday I've been expecting storms since Thursday but so far - nothing. I've had that quivery shaky thing myself from time to time but I can't remember what I was doing. It doesn't seem to be harmful but If I could stop it I would.

It happens to me when I got a full image folder. It's trying to crank out all the previews for that folder and if you were to click on the preview for each one as you scroll through it will try to show it to you. It doesn't hurt anything but it does make the pointer nervous.

! this is a great place to ask questions, people usually take their time to help you out and i've learned loads on here. so nice to hear people say "blimey" - i used to think they only did that in movies and on tv, but i've now met two english people who actually say it

So I have this friend who talks about GimpChat and is always linking me things from here to work on and show me. Sooo I finally decided to introduce myself and say hello. I have worked my way though a few things slowly and will eventually post something I do. Thank you all for the wonderful hints and tutorials. The storms were fierce last night :0. Scary

I am loving gimp and looks like I will need to post a piece of artwork like Erisian and like you all do.

PS My pointer is still a bit nervous but it hasn't affected anything.
