I just got a reply from Partha, and, as you mentioned bilbo, he's working at converting his code to GEGL. Hope it gets done by the next update to GIMP 2.8. :)

By the way, I just did this extraction with this tool; we need this one implemented in GIMP like yesterday I say. :)
