Thought I would download this release candidate Gimp 3.

I downloaded the setup file and the checksum was correct.
Then I ran the setup file - immediately my anti virus (AVG) got upset:

When I started GIMP this warning was produced:

So I have uninstalled GIMP; during that process AVG had some issues with the GIMP Uninstaller but it let it go through to completion.

I will come back to GIMP 3.0 at a later date.

A GIMP team member is curious about what exactly triggers this, do you have any more info to share then GIMP Dbus?

@ contrast_ - that AVG image is from my second attempt to load Gimp; the first time round it was the 'dbus' file that AVG objected to for the same reason as shown in my image, and after I quarantined it and continued, that is when the GIMP warning message appears. I was using my Windows 11 notebook at the time.

NB - I selected the the "install for me only" option.

Sorry I have no more detailed info for you and the Gimp team.

EDIT - have now downloaded and installed the program again, this time selecting "install for all users (recommended)" and have NOT encountered any problems. AVG has remained silent throughout the unpack and install.

I didn't have any problems at all this time. Gimp often has in the past, false positives so I install anyhow. The gimp team are very careful in making sure there are no viruses etc in gimp.

GIMP 3 RC1 has some known bugs that need addressing

1. gif's do not save colors correctly when in layer groups

2. the filter offset crashes Gimp if the user loads an .xcf that has it.

3. A Mac user reports that dockable dialog menu is not accessible

So now there is no crash but it still doesn't work.

new bug: When using Linux Mint's default theme and certain aspect ratios the text displayed on sliders clips in GIMP 3. This is a GTK bug and the team is planning on solving it now.

A new bug in GIMP 3 RC1 has been reported where crashing happens when sample points and alternative color profiles are used together. Though we aren't exactly sure how to trigger it. It seems to involve 10 sample points to trigger according to the bug reporter. For those who don't know if you ctrl drag the top of the canvas ruler GIMP makes a numbered dot that shows color profile info of that pixel where the numbered dot is on. This is called "sample points"

Hope it gets fixed.

Another bug has been reported that sample points give different info depending on color profiles but isn't that expected? I take the first bug serious but the second with a grain of "duh... that's suppose to happen". Both reported by the same author I believe.

The bug where the transform tool clips the image every time has been solved. Users can now use all transform tools (which are destructive) on non-destructive filters without clipping

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/c ... 53d21e19c8
GIMP 3 RC1 now imports settings from 2.99.19 before it did not do that.

Several things to mention about the progress of bugs that were solved

1. The bug with the filter offset crashing on loading was solved
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12289

2. The very long name with color profiles bug was solved
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12337

3. Contributor Rangelovd reported a bug in which he discovered that closing a composition and reapplying a filter from filters>redadd X causes a crash

4. Lead dev Jehan introduced an update where users can run GEGL filters through python/python console in late GIMP 3 RC1.
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=21485

5. Contributors CMYK Student and Tmanni solved issues I was concerned about here relating to how gimp: based GEGL filters interact with layers and groups.
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12552

6. CMYK Student fixed a bug I reported about thumbnail previews being inaccurate
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12553

--
A lot more was solved as well that I didn't mention here
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/milestones/29
but these are the key bugs of interest I payed attetion to

GIMP team plans on releasing GIMP RC2 soon. However, I have one deep concern about GIMP RC2. I personally wish (not demand) that GIMP's team would consider solving the clip performance bug before the release of RC2 to prevent the potential of RC3.

New bug
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/issues/12596

Applying ND filters on selections then downscaling or upscaling relocates the ND filter content.

Sorry i've been gone for a long time. Its because I am losing interest in GIMP.

However today Jehan fixed the crop bug which means multiple filters can be stacked without things like shadows clipping and uh other stuff was solved that I wasn't paying attention to. GIMP 3 RC3 is going to release in under a week or so (much sooner) and its possible that GIMP 3 will release in a month. Here's the final things to do list https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gimp/-/m ... tab-issues
