Sometimes it does. :yes

Interesting read Saul. If they are that close in getting GEGL to work with the current 2.8 GIMP (if I'm reading things right), why not give them 2 more weeks so that they can do the complete port for 2.8? Then, the additional bells/whistles can be added in 2.10 which hopefully will be in the Fall. Don't want to wait another 4 years between 2.8 and 2.10. :)

I can wait for a decent stable release. Gimp-2.8 release candidate 1 seems to run very nicely.
Some of my older plugins like TWIST wouldn't run right away, but after taking the plugin out and replacing it they worked fine.Weird behavior hey!
Are they still planning to merge the new RGGJAN foreground matting tool in Gimp-2.8 stable release?

NICE!
The port lives in the goat-invasion branch in GIT. That branch will become master once GIMP 2.8 is relased, so the first GIMP 2.9 developer release will already contain the port in progress.

GIMP 2.10’s core will be 100% ported to GEGL, and all of the legacy pixel fiddling API for plug-ins is going to be deprecated. Once the core is completely ported, it will be a minor effort to simply “switch on” high bit depths and whatever color models we’d like to see.

That is fantastic news. Thanks devs for all your hard work on GEGL porting.

In addition to the high bit depth colors support, the switch to GEGL will enable multi-threading, allowing GIMP to take full advantage of multi-core processors.

My understanding is that GEGL is also fairly close to having OpenCL support (there was Summer of Code project for it last year). OpenCL offloads much of the compositing operations to the hardware on the graphics card and should offer significant speed improvements, or at least free up the main processor(s) to work on other things.

Long ago some developers explained me that Gegl would make much easier implement a Macro recorder (a action recorder or how you prefer to call it) and nodal editing

It is so ? any plan about ?

I thought " GeglBuffer’s tiles are stored in a GeglTileBackend, and it’s possible to write tile backends for arbitrary pixel storage, so why not write a tile backend that uses a legacy GIMP TileManager as storage." would allow for backwards compatibility but again, coder I'm not. The they can get a legacy capability for GEGL, then there wouldn't be any reason not to implement GEGL now. :)

That is quite a bit of headway within a few days. :)
