They are behind schedule but expect Gimp 2.10.38 very soon such as a day or two days max.

I already compiled Gimp 2.10 master branch and there are no noticeable changes from Gimp 2.10.36

:gimp

This may be the final Gimp 2.10 release

It's a bugfix release so there aren't any major new features. The highlights:

* Transparent Indexed PNGs should now export properly
* Fix the small selection bug
* Fix the crash-on-close caused by changes in GLib 2.80
* Fix some inconsistencies with plug-in parameter ranges (e.g. you can now use Fog in a selection without getting odd results)
* Fix issue with importing CSS palettes that had been exported from GIMP.

Jehan moved the date to April 21st.. though it still could be released slightly earlier or later.

Ok, I was off. But GIMP's team needs to get on the ball and release 2.10.38 by tomorrow or the next day.

From insider sources I have reason to believe 2.10.38 download will be out tomorrow and the next day or two a public download for it will be on GIMPs website.

There also could be a 2.10.40 that releases after GIMP 3 if any major bugs or new breakages like GLIB problems are found but for the most part GIMP 2.10 is retired and there is no serious interest in it. Even if 2.10.40 or 2.10.42 come into existence eventually GIMPs team will drop all support for GIMP 2. It is more likely then not that 2.10.38 is the final 2.10 release ever.

Please Remember that the original GIMP 2 was released in 2004 over 20 years and one month ago. For those that continue to use GIMP 2.10 just know you are missing out on the amazing gift of GEGL and NDE.

These three updates hopefully will be merged in the 2.10 branch tomorrow

Jehan confirmed that today will be 2.10.38's release date. I compiled master branch yesterday and it is pretty much the same thing as 2.10.36 but with niche bug fixes that 99% of users will not notice. Heck the only noticeable thing is that a broke create brush option was removed from "/" search menu.

Based on the number of reports we get, I think the improved Windows tablet support, indexed transparent PNG export fix, the GLib 2.80 crash fix, and the small selection crash fix are going to be very noticable. :)

But yeah, other than the Windows tablet features there's intentionally no shiny new features added. It's for improving 2.10's stability only.

Why should I download from an unofficial place?

It's actually where the official packager for GIMP 2.10 on Windows posts their in-progress Windows installers. It's not done yet (as I understand), but basically it fixes some of the issues created by recent GTK patches in 2.10.38 (like not being able to have pop-out windows stay in front or being able to drag palette entries to rearrange them).

We'll post it on the main GIMP website once it's done. :)

Yes i have installed revision 1 and have had no problems (bugs), as of yet. Works well with PSPI (Adobe 8bf Plugins) as well. And it installed over my existing Gimp-2.10.38 install with 0 problems.

I did get 1 error for a GMIC startup however. It was for a dll file. But GMIC did load.
