Folks do you have any idea what happened to the link layer experiments
(Linked layers in GIMP are like Smart Objects in Photoshop)

Jehan put it on hold to finish GIMP 3.0. The current plan is that he will finish it for the next release (along with vector layers and a shape tool, which I'll hopefully be working on), but we'll see what happens.
