Simply awesome!

On a side note Partha has informed me a new Gimp-2.7.4 is about to be released by him.
It will include the new GMIC.
He also told me he would give compiling this a try. No promises though. :hehe

I simply can not thank you enough Partha for all the hard work you have put into development of Windows compiles.
If anyone deserves the Gimp of the year award it is you my friend. :bigthup

Great work, and thanks again.

Saw the second video already but not the one about the foreground extractor. The current FE sucks, but I've gotton some use of it when I also use quick mask. Definitely looking forward to the new FE. :)

Using GIMP for me is fun and pleasure.
Thanks Partha - thanks to you we have the opportunity to learn.
How can we best thank for his work?
Your contribution to the Gimp - it is priceless!

Partha do you take donations to keep your server going?
Or perhaps to keep that ole compiler chugging along? :)

I would definitely donate to your cause.

Whoa, those are awesome features. They will be in the 2.8 whenever it's released?

If Partha can manage to get that running in a new compile of 2.7, I'll make him a Wilber statue. :)

Not to mention a new on canvas Iwarp tool is being worked on as well as the cage transform tool is getting some new features added. The transform tools have already introduced the mesh grid for more accurate transformations. :)
Most of these will not be out in Gimp-2.8 but i believe the sources will be.So testing will be an option i am sure.

I know the clone tool is available now though it is still buggy, and that is the reason i asked Partha to compile it.

No. Too late for new features in 2.8.

That's ideal if you wonna do finer detail on images. It's something I would consider to have in the furture.

Well, there was a Google Summer of Code 2009 project to implement refinement brush in the existing foreground selection tool.

https://sites.google.com/site/gsoc2009/result-demo

The student didn't collaborate much with the team (if at all), and the result ended up being not compilable, so it's not even in upcoming v2.8, and so far noone volunteered to clean up the code for future releases.

As far as I can see, the two approaches to the same problem (refinement for small objects like hair) are concurrent, and neither of them can make it to upstream GIMP without a dedicated developer willing to finish the work and port it to GEGL.

For those interested, thanks to Warp Transform tool by Michael Mure GIMP 2.10 will have basics of GEGL based painting, so doing a GEGL based SIOX tool is already entirely possible.

Any idea how soon 2.10 will be out after 2.8?
I know they are trying to get releases out much faster after 2.8.I was just wondering if you knew how far in between for each release.

It's hard to say. Basically it's GSoC2011 + libgimp cleanup. I have a good understanding where all GSoC projects currently are, but I have little to no understanding what kind of cleanup libgimp needs, so it'd be a bit foolish from me to provide any estimations.

However, to give you idea... The new size entry widget is pretty much complete, but both new tools need more work. I'd say, few months of work from now to make them really robust, feature complete and conforming to usablity standards by Peter who has a functional spec for Warp Transform it in the pipeline.

OTOH it's entirely possible that if by the time libgimp cleanup is done, tools won't be ready, the team will skip them to release 2.10 faster. I do hope this won't happen though :)

So anyone willing to pick either of SIOX tools to get them into 2.10 definitely has some time for a head start. Dropping to #gimp for assistance on programming usually boosts the work :)
