Gimp opens with the Dockable dialogs: Brushes, Patterns, History, Gradients, Palettes and Brush Editor, and Brush Editor open in the foreground which I don't want.

So I click on the menu to close it:

Then I go to Edit/Preferences/Tool options and click on "Save tool options now" and Ok:

Then I go to Edit/Preferences/Input Devices and click "save input device now" and OK
I close Gimp and reopen it, and Brush Editor is still in the foreground!

Once you close a dialog tab it shouldn't need any other tool adjustment under preferences.
Close the tab and any time you restart Gimp it should remain closed until you add it to the dialog again.

This could very well be a bug in Gimp-2.8 that wasn't found until now. As far as i know those versions may no longer be supported by the help team.

Try updating to Gimp-2.10.38 RV-1.

I don't have this "little" problem with Gimp 2.10.38-1.

if you can write "Gimp_3.0.2_Portable_clang" in the box, tell me how you do it?

Just type 3.0.2 in the Gimp Version box. Then explain in the thread which version, CLANG or whichever.

I could not replicate this in the latest win CLANG portable on GitLab. I opened the brush editor dialog and then closed it. I then restarted Gimp-3.0 and the brush editor was still closed. If you are still having issues you can try this version of GIMP-3.0.3 DEV Portable

but since I'm using my 2.10 versions more often, I'm sticking with this portable version of Samj.
