Thumbnails

GIMP Version: 3.0.4
Operating System: Windows
OS Version: 10
GIMP Experience: Basic Level

Need confirmation rather than help.

Yes I know I'm slow, but I have been using 2.10 still for most stuff until it broke recently when I downloaded something and instead of trying to fix it I thought I would have a closer look at vs 3. I notice it still has close all. Anyhow, my question

Doesn't vs 3 have the thumbnails of your pictures at the top of the work screen any more? Used to beable to open a few and work on them and export/close as I did each one.

You can still open multiple images,
switch between them,
and close/export one at a time,
but it’s handled through the multi-document interface (MDI) tabs,
or the Windows → Dockable Dialogs → Images dialog.

If you want thumbnail previews,
enable the Images dockable dialog,
which gives you a panel with thumbnails of all open images.
Similar to how older versions displayed them in the tab strip.

So the thumbnails haven’t disappeared completely,
but they’re not in the same place as GIMP 2.10.
They’ve just been moved to an optional dialog.

This is a screenshot from my GIMP 3.0.4 install,
which looks to be showing all the open images.

Thanks Wallace. I;m not after previews but what you mentioned in the first place. I'll try that out, now.

Unchecking the box under Windows → Hide Tabs,
to hide or show tabs,
will remove the images preview strip from the top.
I prefer using the Images dockable dialog.
Here's an example.

I never noticed what navigation did before until I was messing last night. Shows the current picture. Didn't have any use for it before or even now.

If you're referring to the Navigation Dialog,
I tend to agree.

GIMP has always maintained these functionalities,
through its Zoom and Canvas controls.
The Navigation Dialog seems redundant to me,
since the canvas controls can already do these jobs.

Even so,
GIMP has quite a bit of redundant functionality.
I guess it comes down to individual preference,
which is a good thing.
